Dear Bunny,
You are taking your long morning nap and I’m sitting on the couch thinking about you. How you are seven months old (!!) and the light of my whole life. Your dad and I constantly talk about how sweet it is to have you in our lives – you are SO MUCH FUN, with your giggles and smiles and endless entertainment as we watch you do the simplest things. You add color and substance and fullness to our life in ways I never could have imagined.
Right now, our routine is pretty simple. You wake up around 8am. You nurse, then play, then poop, then eat breakfast, then take a bottle and nap for two hours. Then we get you up and play some more, usually trying to go on a walk or an errand together around the neighborhood. I talk a lot with family and do snatches of work from home. You take your second nap (down to just two now!), usually with Daddy on his chest after he gets home from work and I head into the office for a couple hours. Then you eat dinner, we play, have super fun bath time, and sing our songs and feed you your bedtime bottle. You usually wake up just once overnight for a bottle. And this is our little life together.
My favorite part of the day is when we finish our songs and Daddy leaves the room to go clean up the kitchen and/or put your bathtub away and you are I rock together for a few minutes. You’re usually pretty sleepy, if not totally asleep, at this point. I hold you and hold you and hold you and whisper how much I love you, and I try to get you to burp. Sometimes we just rock in the rocking chair a little longer, so I can pray over you and thank Jesus for you and smell your baby smell in your little wispy brown/blondish hair. As soon as I lay you in your crib and quietly close the door, I tell your dad how much I miss you.
Time is slow and fast. It’s strange how day over day it doesn’t seem like much is changing, but then I look at pictures and notice how much you’ve grown, how you can hold your head up really well now and look more and more like a little girl vs a small baby vs a newborn. I can see your face growing, your expressions becoming more varied, your personality developing. You’re always going to be my little Bun, my small bean whom I carried and nurtured and held inside of me.
I’m treasuring these days, capturing what I can and enjoying each moment. These are the halcyon days of simplicity and sweetness.
H I G H L I G H T S:
-you are digging solid foods! Yeehaw. Current favorites are bananas, avocados, scrambled eggs, and anything mixed in with oatmeal.
-you can roll over front to back, and you did roll over once back to front, but you don’t seem to be crazy about it. You’ll do it like one time and then be done. You’re mostly just interested in eating your feet and trying to grab things.
-your pincer grasp is super close to being there! Here we come, tiny cubed foods!
-you have been wearing 12mo clothes for like a month now lol due to your chubs thighs!
-you are fascinated by construction noises, the vacuum, and watching Daddy. I tease him that he’s the most interesting man in the world because you can’t seem to focus on nursing whenever he’s around.
-Grandpa confirmed you have two teeth coming in! One on top, one on the bottom! YAY
